Observations...
We have not experienced 5km of straight roads in NZ yet. Allow at least an extra hour before finding your destination as it will take you that long to retrace all the wrong turns you've made. Food has flavor and nobody is overweight. Tandem trucks hauling logs may tend to share your side of the road...insurance is well worth the price. New Zealanders take a great deal of pride in their country and culture and welcome you with a smile and helpful suggestions about their special spots to visit.
Last but not least do not believe in any weather forecasts...it can be stormy in one moment and bountiful sunshine the next!
Not the Bisbee Safeway...we're not in AZ 'Toto'.
The owner gifted me a slab of his special cured bacon
which has now spoiled me forever!
We saw this sign along the road for handmade knives,
had to stop in to meet Lloyd and hear his story. Gave
us a good lead on a road less traveled and we headed
for Opito beach.
Matarangi Beach
View from the gravel road going to Opito
Opito Bay...sugar sand and stormy clouds.
The Chasmar Explorer takes a break to breath in the storm.
I've fallen for the shape of the NZ trees
Ms. M takes a stroll on Surf Beach.
At low tide you dig a hole in the sand and sit in thermal
waters that bubbles up through the sand...hence the
name 'Hot Beach'.
Obviously we were not the only ones to make this discovery.
That's all folks for Today!
